The company, which earlier this year invested in kit for its finishing department and last year acquired Carlisle-based Albany Sign, has created the role to strengthen its new business function and target specialist markets including the energy sector.
Farnan joins the Penrith, Cumbria-headquartered firm, which has print shops in Milnthorpe, Carlisle and Penrith, from Cumbrian Newspapers, where he was advertisement director across a number of titles. Before that, he worked with publications including freesheet Metro, The London Evening Standard and GQ magazine.
At H&H Reeds Farnan will report to managing director Dene Marshall, who said: "The world of print is changing, and as a company we have evolved to become a print supplier who can produce every physical proposition a business may need.
"This includes branding, marketing, internal and external communications. Justin has worked in the industry for many years and I know he will be a huge asset to both H&H Reeds Printers, but also in an advisory capacity for businesses within and across the specialist industries we work with such as tourism, the energy and creative sectors."
Farnan told PrintWeek that his role would include "focusing on the breadth and depth" of H&H Reeds' print offering. He said that there are a large number of creative businesses in the Cumbria area, including PR agencies graphic design firms, a market the printer would tap into.
He added: "I am very much looking forward to joining H&H Reeds Printers as I have had great experiences working with them in the past.
"I am excited at the prospect of being part of further expansion and diversification and also to be working for a company with the history, heritage and breadth of the H&H Group."
H&H Reeds offers digital, litho and large-format print for indoor and outdoor applications. It was formed when the 134 year-old Reeds Printers was bought by one of its key clients, H&H Group in 2010, following the latter's decision to enter the print industry.
