The intrepid explorer appeared on Newsnight last night, where he detailed how he cut off his own frostbitten thumb using a Black & Decker.
Organiser Peter Howell said Fiennes was justly described as ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’, with his exploits involving 22 major expeditions around the globe, including both Poles. He is also the oldest Briton to climb to the summit of Mount Everest.
“He’s a fascinating and inspirational man, and also an incredibly nice bloke. Hopefully the thumb incident won’t put anyone off their lunch!” Howell said.
The lunch will take place at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Thursday 12 December, and will be hosted by comedian Ian Irving.
Kaos, the children’s signing choir that featured in the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, will also perform at the event.
This year's event will raise money for The Children’s Trust at Tadworth and JDRF, the type one diabetes charity.
Tables of eight, 10 or 12 are available, and individual tickets cost £150 a head.
