Demonstrated on the manufacturer’s Dimensor Model S printer, this technology is said to enable users to add custom height by embossing and printing simultaneously, without the need for a print cylinder.
The Model S can print embossed effects up to 1mm high, which can vary in depth across the substrate. The kit works with Veika’s own water-based inks and Ecodeco base material.
The 1.6m-wide Model S can print six to 12 passes at a maximum speed of up to 20sqm/hr – or high quality at 12sqm/hr – in CMYK, which makes it suitable for digital printers looking to produce wallpaper. The machine is available to order now for 70,000 and deliveries will begin mid next year.
Dimensor Model M, which Veika said will print at speeds of up to 100sqm/hr, will be available in 2019 while the 1,000sqm/hr Model L, which will print in one pass and meet the productivity needs of wallpaper companies, is expected to be available from 2020.
Veika said this technology eliminates the drawbacks of using a cylinder, such as the need for the embossed pattern to be produced. With a cylinder, the size and format of the embossing is also limited and can’t exceed the circumference of the cylinder.
Using Dimense technology, the firm said users therefore don’t need to sell thousands of running metres of wallpaper for a motif to be profitable. This makes small batches possible and new designs easy and quick to produce and test.
Veika marketing specialist Vadim Timofejev said: “The uniqueness of this product is that you can make structure in register with the colour image – in other words you can print with embossing. You can use any image or your own design and make it in different sizes.
“The digital market is changing very quickly so every year we see differences and new trends. Our main goal is to make this technology accessible to wallpaper buyers.”
