Corrugated cardboard packaging specialist BoxWay Packaging Group has secured coveted Silver ratings for its two sites from sustainability ratings and ESG compliance body EcoVadis.

BoxWay Packaging’s Exeter and Peterlee sites achieved the rating after submitting robust data demonstrating a strong performance across a raft of key sustainability and compliance criteria.

The EcoVadis ratings system is the first and largest collaborative platform in the world for trading partners to share responsibility performance information and helps businesses manage ESG risk and compliance, meet corporate sustainability goals and drive impact at scale by guiding the sustainability performance improvement of a business and its value chain.

“I am absolutely delighted with our Silver Award, awarded to the top 15% of all EcoVadis rated companies,” said group sales director Matthew Botting.

“It’s witness to the whole team’s continuous pursuit of excellent quality and innovation where our customers are at the heart of everything we do.”

EcoVadis assessments focus on 21 issues, which are grouped into four themes: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. The 21 issues or criteria are based upon international sustainability standards such as the Global Compact Principles, the International Labour Organization conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative standard, the ISO 26000 standard, and the Ceres principles.

“This year we again scored fantastic results in the areas of Sustainable Procurement, the Environment, Ethics and Labour & Human Rights, where we achieved excellent results of being within the top 25%, 26%, 12% and 6% respectively, of companies rated by EcoVadis.” said Botting.
