According to Mike Smyth, sales director for UK and Ireland, where printers have previously checked densitometric functions, from density to trapping, the new tool allows the precise measurement of colour and its components. “It gives a precise measurement of colour, breaking it down to its component parts,” he says. “Instead of measuring weights, film thicknesses and densities, users can understand the colour they are printing and how it measures against standard.”
The entry-level product is targeted at people checking CMYK prints in the press room who are aiming to achieve ISO standards. It combines colour accuracy with ease of use, says Smyth.
Features include extendable measuring heads for exact positioning and stability, an integrated white reference tile for auto calibration, and high-resolution graphic displays and ring illumination for easy viewing and positioning.
“Without any additional training a printer can work using known, trusted density values,” claims Smyth. “The pass or fail indicator is given as colour measurements conforming to the ISO standard.” Users also determine whether modifying ink film thickness or adding transparent white will achieve an accurate enough match with the reference colour. This, says Smyth, “translates into savings in both time and money due to the rapid assessment of colour”.
