Horizon SB-07 perfect binder

Horizons SB-07 seven-clamp perfect binder was finally given its UK debut at Graphic Arts Equipments 2008 open house, almost two years after it was shown as a prototype at Ipex 2006.

During the demonstrations held earlier this month, the machine reached speeds of 3,200 books per hour, binding thicknesses between 2mm and 45mm. Semi-automated set-up keep changeover times to a minimum and the machine’s large touchscreen monitoring function set-ups, adjustments and errors, ensures operation was quick and easy.

“The SB-07 still has the quick make readies for short runs, but the higher production speed increases capacity and capability,” said joint managing director of Graphics Arts Equipment Tony Hards.
“It is designed to satisfy the key requirements of two growth markets. Firstly, it offers an upgrade path for customers who have built a successful perfect-binding operation with a smaller system. And it will appeal to established finishing houses where conventional systems are struggling with reduced run lengths and digitally printed products.”

A workstation is provided at the book block feeding area and a built-in jogger helps to align the book block. Dual application rollers with side gluing ensure strong binding results.

The binder’s suction cover feeder handles a wide range of substrates.

Cover sheets are fed from the top of the pile for markless feeding, handling a maximum cover pile height of 150mm. The cover-scoring position is set up automatically by inputting the relevant book size data,
and pressure on the scoring wheel is fully adjustable.

A built-in matching mechanism guarantees precise alignment of the cover to the book block for square and accurate spines from the first book to the last.
