The double-sided Matrix 370 Duplex, which is able to laminate, foil and create Spot UV-style effects on SRA3 portrait sheets, is a smaller format model of the firm’s Matrix 530 device.
Launching alongside this is the 370 Auto-Feeder, which follows the Drupa debut of the Auto-Feeder for the 530 models. These feeders allow prints to be top loaded on the fly for non-stop operation.
Vivid marketing communications manager David Smith said these launches came largely off the back of Drupa requests: “There’s been talk of a smaller double-sided Matrix and a feeder for that since we launched the original model and the resellers that were at Drupa were asking us whether we were still planning on doing this.
“We’ve turned it round fairly quickly from having those requests at Drupa to then getting a system built.”
The company is also adding new finishes to its Boss Premium Foil range, including an over-printable holographic foil and a pure white foil, which Vivid said replicates the effect of printing white. These foils work by combining the Matrix laminator and a digital printer.
Other new products include the Easycoat, an SRA3-size gluing system that adds a layer of adhesive to media. Layers can then be added one-by-one to create a thick substrate that can be used for applications such as book covers and high quality business cards.
The glued layers are then placed in the new Easyguide, a carrier tray which can be passed through the Easymount, adhering and fixing the glued layers in place by using the system’s mounting capabilities. Vivid said this patented device gives a high level of accuracy and precision.
“A lot of people using the Matrix are doing business cards SRA3,” said Smith.
“There are a lot of systems out there that will do a similar gluing job but what we’ve seen in our research is that once you’re putting those layers of glue down, you then have to very carefully position your next layer of substrate on and use a roller or a squeegee to make sure the glue is completely covering the whole sheet.”
The Easycoat and Easyguide plus the new foils are available with immediate effect while Vivid will be taking orders for the new 370 Duplex system and its Auto-Feeder from next week, following the launch of all the new products at The Print Show.
