The new Duplo DC-648 slitter/cutter/creaser is targeted at printers looking for a versatile, easy-to-use finishing system.
Duplo noted: “One unexpected legacy of the last two years involves the shortage of skilled staff, leaving printshops in the position where they need to maintain production and delivery commitments using inexperienced staff, or just the same with less personnel as they juggle the challenges of unpredictable availability.”
Product marketing manager Peter Dyson described the DC-648 as being “packed with new features” to help users capture a bigger slice of profits.
“Looking beyond treating running speed crudely as a key attribute, Duplo has added features to support Industry 4.0, as well as increased integration with EFI Fiery workflows where job set-up of the Duplo can be driven directly from EFI Impose, creating a very efficient process that has many of the benefits of JDF finishing without the high costs of implementation,” he said.
The device was shown in January in the US at EFI’s Connect user conference, and is now available through Duplo International in the UK.
The DC-648 runs at 40spm and can handle six slits, 30 cuts, and 20 creases in one pass. Job setup can also be driven by QR codes. It handles substrates from 110gsm to 400gsm and long sheets up to 1m in length.
SRA3 sheet speed for 21-up business cards is 12.2spm, and for 4-up A6 greeting cards the speed is 25.5spm.
Another key feature is ‘up and down creasing’ for improved results on products such as book jackets and Z-folds.
Optional modules include a long sheet table and business card catch tray that now also jogs.
Pricing depends on specification and modules. The DC-648 sits between Duplo's existing DC-646 and the DC-746 model, which starts at £55,000.
The certified Industry 4.0 tracking and integration capability could also help boost investment if the government expands a pilot scheme that ran in the North West last year, which offered advice and matched funding to SMEs investing in Industry 4.0 tech to improve productivity.
