The High Wycombe firm also warned that printers and print buyers should make sure they are using the correct substrate for exterior graphics, with an appropriate slip rating.

The aptly-named PrintGrip PE-5000ZW material is made from a PE-based film that is UV-stabilised and covered with grit, plus a printable top coating.

It does not require over-lamination and has an “aggressive” 50micron adhesive that can adhere to most exterior paved surfaces “including concrete, natural stone and tarmac”.

Lintec said that PrintGrip could be printed using latex, UV and eco-solvent digital printing devices; and was also suitable for UV and solvent screen printing.

Managing director Andy Voss warned that organisations should not overlook the potential slip hazards when specifying floor graphics and carrying out risk assessments.

“Failure to do so can result in injuries to the public and the possibility of legal claims. With the launch of PrintGrip, we are pleased to offer an innovative, cost-effective solution to assure compliance with social distancing regulations, while also minimising the risk of injury,” he stated.

PrintGrip has an R12 rating on the slip rating scale of R9 (lowest slip resistance) to R13 (highest).

Lintec said that R12 was the minimum recommended rating for any internal or external surface that was likely to get wet – such as building entrances – “and this was not widely understood”.
