The device is designed for the application of UV, aqueous, primer/Sapphire and speciality coatings and is compatible with most large offset and digital presses, according to the manufacturer. It can handle a broad range of substrates including card stock, ultra-thin plastics and lenticular on grades of 60-600gsm.
Kompac said it did not reveal list prices but that quotes were given for individual enquiries.
The Onyx 30, which was launched in the US in July and had its first install in August, can prime and flood sheets of up to 560x800mm wide at up to 6,000sph, as well as spot-coating detail including texture, scratch-off, soft-touch and satin.
The system incorporates the Kompac high-pile pallet/dolly stacker that automatically descends and jogs, as well as an Automatic Stream Feeder, which supports high throughput and accurate registration. Also included is automatic double-sheet detection and removal, while lateral pallet movement means the device can accept pallets and dollies directly from digital or offset press.
The Vac Cleaning System means cleaning and switching coatings can be done in less than two minutes.
Optional equipment includes a chambered anilox coating system allowing Soft Touch and UV matte coating in one pass, die-cutting, perforating or creasing capabilities and single or duplex IR dryers.
