Kingfisher Print & Design returns to Heidelberg for finishing upgrades

Kingfisher Print & Design has upgraded its folding and cutting capabilities after returning to Heidelberg for latest stage in its equipment investment programme.

The Devon-based business has taken delivery of a Polar 92N Pro guillotine as well as an automated Stahlfolder KH 82 with additional knife unit to cater for B1-format print production.

The £3.5m turnover firm invested in a five-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 press with coater last year, replacing two second-hand, five-colour Speedmaster 74 models in the process.

According to managing director Ross Bellotti, the addition of the new Stahlfolder will enable the 28 year-old printer to run a more efficient finishing operation.

He said: "Much of the estate agency work we handle is A4 landscape. With a B2 folder we had to cut work down and score it on a Cylinder. With the bigger format combination folder we can now handle 8pp landscape and score inline.

"This gives us massive time savings and makes us more competitive in this market. We are one of the leaders in the field with a number of national estate agency contracts."

Kingfisher opted to remain with Heidelberg for its finishing upgrade for several reasons.

Bellotti said: "We achieved good resale on our older Polar and Stahlfolder because of the make and because we always look after and maintain our kit well.

"This impacts on our decision-making. Buying kit with good retained value means on-going investment is more achievable."

However, the company also believes that the new equipment will also have a significant impact on the efficiency of its finishing operation.

"I believe this latest investment will have at least as much impact by cutting out processes, and by implication time, from our production and enabling us to offer customers top quality even faster," he added.
