The Embedded Color Bar enables packaging converters to embed a colour bar, which is used for controlling colour, registration and ink on the printed substrate, into the image on a label or packaging design.
Goss said colour bars traditionally require a clear space on the substrate, with this clear section then requiring an additional step in the production process to remove, otherwise it is left on the finished product, which can impact the design.
Goss product management director Peter Walczak said: “This has been a barrier to many converters who would otherwise choose web offset due to all the quality and productivity benefits it offers. However, Color Bar Control eliminates this problem.”
Goss has also confirmed its latest collaboration, with Presstek. The two companies are both owned by American Industrial Partners (AIP), following the private equity firm's purchase of Goss International last year.
Together they aim to deliver a combination of CTP imaging systems, eco-friendly plates, presses and service and support, specifically targeted for the commercial and newspaper printing markets.
Separately, heatset drying systems manufacturer Contiweb, a Goss International company, is showing its new Contiweb Fluid Applicator (CFA) technology.
The system offers what Goss claims is a “breakthrough” approach to the application of silicone oil and water to restore moisture to the printed web and protect against ink picking on the surface of the chill rollers.
The product, which mixes 100% silicone and water directly into the trays of the system, is said to offer significant cost benefits for web offset printers, enhance print performance and productivity and contribute to a better finished product.
Goss Contiweb managing director Bert Schoonderbeek said printers have been using ready mixed silicone/water products up until now.
“These are provided by a wide array of chemicals and additives in different formulations and standards. They can also cause maintenance issues and contamination in the silicone mix system and folder long-term.”
