Brian Sidebottom, managing director of Glossop Cartons, said, although the company's existing anilox technology allowed it to apply coatings to skin packaging in one pass, it did not work with all coatings.
Working alongside its anilox machines, the D3000LX will allow Glossop Cartons to offer a wider range of coatings.
"Anilox is the way forward but there are many types of coating that aren’t suitable for those machines so the product has to go through a second pass in an offline machine.
"As far as I know, ours is the only machine that doesn’t need that second pass with those kinds of coatings," he added.
Equipment supplier M Partners sourced the secondhand machine from Europe, through the Mitsubishi network, and was able to modify it to Glossop Cartons’ specifications.
It added a Baldwin UV drying system and ancillary equipment, including chilling equipment.
Gary Doman, M Partners’ head of sales, said the press was able to process the unusual coatings because it used a two-roller coater system instead of an anilox roller.
Glossop Cartons’ director Jacky Sidebottom said: "The coating unit and the coating know-how of the team at M Partners were key to our decision to purchase our second Mitsubishi machine."
The D3000LX is the company’s second Mitsubishi press. It also bought a Mitsubishi V3000LC three years ago. Sidebottom said the original press had been "extremely reliable".
"It has performed wonderfully and consistently for us, so we had no doubts whatsoever about the print quality on offer from Mitsubishi," she added.
