The miniature folder, which first became available last week, has a folding speed of 150m/min, a minimum folding length of 18mm and a working width of 450mm.
It is based on the established KL 112.1 technology but incorporates a number of technical differences including a belt rather than gear drive and slimmer folding plate construction.
The device, which also incorporates an integrated batch counter and double sheet detection, can be optimised to suit most production requirements with either a pile feeder or continuous feeder. It can be configured with fold plate combinations of 8/6, 8/4, 6/6 and 6/4.
Existing production units, such as knife units, pressing units and labellers, can be used behind the machine, which is also expandable with gluing or quality control systems.
“The KL 112 range has traditionally been very bespoke so it’s built to suit that particular requirement. But this is a more all-purpose machine that will suit printers wishing to fold very small products and other general products,” said Friedheim UK & Ireland sales manager Stuart Bamford.
“For example, one of the growth areas in print at the moment that this machine would suit is for the little leaflets that come inside SIM card packs. Printers are finding that they’re getting more work for smaller paper products that fit into a wallet or handbag.”
Bamford added that pricing is dependent on the specification of the device but starts ‘in the low £40,000 range’.
