The updated diecutter has seven new features, including a Tool Saver, which automatically removes pressure from the platen in the absence of a sheet, and reinstates the preset speed and force when sheet feeding restarts.

Bobst head of product marketing for sheetfed Jacques Reymond said: "By removing the pressure when no sheet is there Tool Saver increases the operational life of tooling.

"It means that high quality cutting can be maintained for an increased number of impressions, which reduces the cost of manufacturing each box."

The first customers of the revamped machine, dubbed the "workhorse for the world’s medium to high volume carton makers" by Bobst, have reportedly testified to the savings and improvements made to their operation with the help of the Expertcut.

Craig Moran, Zone Business Director for Bobst, said: "The early adopter companies are reporting that the machine is faster to makeready, quicker to get back in production after a stop, and creates less waste, which helps with their environmental aims."

He added that the take up was evenly spread geographically, including several adopters in Europe, but the UK is yet to have its first Expertcut instated.

"There are several UK carton makers looking seriously at the new version to replace existing machines or to add capacity and we expect to see the first ones installed here in the second half of the year," he said.
