The machine, which launched in the UK on Monday (1 September), costs around €26,000 (£20,700) for a 4-roll multi-functional configuration with colour scanner.

It is part of the firm’s Radiant Fusing technology line-up and offers a mid-point between the low volume Océ PlotWave 340 and 360 series and Océ PlotWave 750 production systems.

A Canon UK spokesperson said: “We are launching this product to meet the customer demand coming from engineering, construction, manufacturing sectors and print service providers.

“This product shows our dedication to the mono market and to the space conscious customers who are looking for productivity in a small footprint, energy efficiency, cloud connectivity and mobile printing.”

The printer has a resolution quality of 600x1200 dpi at a speed of 10 A1 ppm and an improved processing unit, the latest generation of print heads and a capacity of up to four media rolls.

It also features 'instant' warm-up, with a 30 second turnaround on average from sleep mode to first print-in-hand.

Canon said the Radiant Fusing technology allows for sharper output when compared to conventional fusing technology as toner melts on the spot rather than being transferred on a heated roll.

The PlotWave 500 is fully integrated with the cloud, allowing printing from and scanning to the cloud via mobile phone, tablet, USB flash drive or a printer’s network.
