The two new devices, the Océ ColorWave 500 and the Océ ColorWave 700, offer instant-dry and water-resistant prints on roll-based media. They will be available in both printer-only and multi-function versions.
Canon is pitching the ColorWave 500 at companies producing computer-aided design (CAD); architecture, engineering and construction (AEC); and geographical information system (GIS) applications.
The system comes with secure cloud connectivity and Windows 8 embedded controller, making it suitable for corporate environments with multiple users. There is also an option for removable dual hard drives, for added data security.
The ColorWave 700 caters for businesses requiring a higher print volume, including reprographics, sign and display printers and in-house printing applications in industries such as retail, hospitality, POS, education and government.
The system supports media up to 0.8mm thick, which makes it suitable for a large range of graphics applications including canvas, wallpaper and banner printing.
Both printers feature the latest version of Océ CrystalPoint technology, which enables high-speed toner printing with strong adhesion to standard and specialty substrates, a higher print quality and clean refilling.
Both devices also feature cloud integration, automatic media sensing, multiple user support, secure workflow and an optional built-in scanner.
Up to six different rolls of media can be loaded at one time meaning that each printer can simultaneously handle a number of different jobs without having to load and unload rolls in-between.
Canon Europe Wide Format Printing Group director Yuichi Miyano said: "Both printers are built on a philosophy of the highest possible productivity in the smallest possible footprint, so they can produce an exceptional range of creative applications with minimal user training and in almost any business environment."
Canon UK wide format printing group director Duncan Smith added: “Versatility is the key to these new products, both in terms of application possibilities and the wide range of substrates that can be printed on.
“Advances in Océ CrystalPoint technology are enabling the ColorWave range to become even more flexible to the needs of diverse industry-specific demands.”
Canon said pricing for the machines will start from £29,500 although, being modular in design, the final price would be determined by a customer’s specific application requirements.
The ColorWave 500 and 700 will be available to order from the end of February. They will be shown for the first time at next month’s Sign & Digital UK 2015 at Birmingham’s NEC from 24 to 26 March and will also be on show at Fespa 2015 in Cologne from 18-22 May.
