The printers can now take substrates weighing between 60gsm and 300gsm (256gsm autoduplex). Previously, they could only take autoduplex weights up to 220gsm and the lightest weight they could take was 64gsm.
They also now come with Paper Catalogue, an online library of substrate attributes, which allows customers to get fast access to frequent stocks.
Other improvements include the addition of the Simple Image Quality Adjustment (SIQA) software adjustment tool, which helps maintain registration and support for difficult jobs, and a new Xerox FreeFlow print server and EFI Fiery NX station.
The FreeFlow server expands the machines' capabilities with new production colour management tools and the Fiery NX comes with a new workstation, which has a minimised footprint but a larger screen and wireless controls.
The enhanced models are available immediately and upgrades are also available to existing C60 and C70 owners.
The machines, which have been available since September 2014, are listed at £18,688. There will be no increase in price as a result of the enhancements but existing owners will have to pay for the upgraded print servers if they want them.
Around 3,500 have been sold in Europe so far this year, which Xerox European business manager Anna Askels said should improve in 2017 with the upgrades.
Askels said: “What we’ve done here with this update is really take on board customer input and feedback. What customers have been telling us is that they want more media latitude to add to their ease-of-use and greater tools to improve quality and workflow."
Askels added: “It is very much the case that soon after Xerox launches a platform it looks for its next additions. We started working on updates soon after we launched in September 2014 and will be adding more next year."
She said Xerox plans on releasing further updates to the models in Q1 of 2017, including extending its punch capabilities for A5 to SRA3 sheet size. This feature is already available on its Versant 80.
Xerox recently announced sales of its Drupa-launched DTO printer had exceeded expectations. It also used Drupa to launch its Brenva HD Production Inkjet Press.
