The first Xeikon 5000 in the UK is going to London's 1st Byte (PrintWeek, 22 April).
At Drupa Xeikon unveiled its new strapline: "we are because we dare", and Guido Dumarey, chief executive of parent Punch International, said the business was "back with a vengeance".
"Our attitude is more daring than the competition more daring than you or I would think possible," he stated.
At the show Xeikon is also showcasing a new concept in co-operation with Stora Enso. The two firms have teamed up to create an on-demand digital printing system for paperboard CD packaging using Stora Enso's Disc Box Slider design.
The 350gsm Ensogloss substrate is printed in the 5000 and then passes into the DBS converter unit which coats and UV cures the printed web. This is then die-cut and creased into two stacks. These then go into the DBS Pacmaster which assembles the boxes and inserts CDs and leaflets if required.
Xeikon marketing manager Frank Jacobs said the system produced a lightweight product that provided design flexibility, short lead times, economical short-runs and personalisation, and environmental benefits over jewel cases.
The DBS line will go into beta testing at five sites after Drupa.
