X-Rite begins first round of job cuts since GretagMacbeth deal

The first bout of job losses arising from X-Rite's acquisition of GretagMacbeth is underway as the firm integrates its UK operations.

X-Rite announced last week that it would close GretagMacbeth's UK sales office, Preston Brook, and merge its staff with its own UK base at Poynton. Joint operations began at the consolidated office on 9 October.

X-Rite's recently appointed UK and Ireland sales director Michael Smyth refused to be drawn on the exact number of redundancies, but said: "Obviously some positions have been affected."

Following its acquisition of GretagMacbeth, X-Rite had said the deal would lead to savings of around 13.4m per year.

Smyth added: "Maintaining two sales offices in such close proximity is confusing to customers and adds needless costs to the running of the business."

Smyth, who took charge following the surprise exit of former X-Rite UK managing director Geoff Balfour last month, said that he had been performing the duties associated with his new job since the July merger.
