The investment, part of a £10m programme, saw the firm install a Heidelberg MK Mastermatrix 106 CSB in mid-June, with another Komori press on the way.
The spend follows last year's £1.1 million installation of a Bobst Expertcut die-cutter.
The incoming Komori - yet unspecified, though with “extra bells and whistles, as you’d normally expect on a new machine”, according to sales and marketing director Justin Wilkins - will join Wilkins’ fleet of Komori Lithrone offset litho presses.
Wilkins told Printweek: “They’re a good value machine.
“We’ve got a battery full of them, so from a spares point of view, and in terms of training and staff, it makes sense to keep it all under one [manufacturer’s] roof.”
To accommodate the new machinery - and give room for further growth - the firm has begun a 4,600sqm extension to its Nottinghamshire production site.
The upgraded site, which currently employs more than 300 people, will stretch over 16,700sqm.
Wilkins said that the expansion was all about ramping up production volume for the food packaging specialist.
He said: “We’re looking to grow the business quite significantly over the next 12 to 18 months.
“That’s our plan - it’ll be more of just being able to do more volume of what we currently do.”
Wilkins’ turnover reached £46m last year, representing an increase of more than 20% year-on-year.
