WAM!NET is set to cut jobs due to high overheads and is relocating its service team to London.

The firm will also centralise its development team in the US. A "significant number of people" will be made redundant, but no numbers have yet been given while the firm is "in consultation with staff".

The service division is moving to London in an attempt to expand the firms presence in the European broadcast and entertainment market, said UK country director Harvey Jones.

The team will be headed by Chris Friend, who is replacing Denice Gibson as managing director of Europe. She is returning to the US, having overseen Europe while a replacement for David Townend was found (PrintWeek, 16 June).

WAM!NET is still targeting the printing industry and is set to roll out new services at Seybold. It will still promote its file transfer services. It is also launching online asset management service, WAM!BASE, in Europe at the end of the year.

WAM!NETs plans to float the firm, which were first announced in March, are still "under active consideration," according to industry marketing specialist Jeremy Hamilton.
