VMB employee recovers after press accident

A packaging printer was recovering in a Birmingham hospital this week after his arm became trapped in a press last Tuesday.

Dean Roberts, an employee at Worcester-based packaging firm VMB, has undergone surgery to replace skin on his forearm after it became trapped in a six-colour flexo press.

Roberts' arm was trapped for 45 minutes before the fire brigade arrived to free him. He was expected to remain in Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham for seven to 10 days.

John Smith, VMB managing director, said that the incident was "very serious" and that Roberts' swift recovery was the firm's "immediate priority".

Smith said: "We are conducting a thorough inves-tigation with outside specialists so that we can ensure this doesn't happen again."
