HSE investigates accident at Artisan Press

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating an accident at Artisan Press, which led to an employee being air-lifted to hospital.

According to the ambulance service, a 53-year old man suffered head injuries at Artisan's Leicester plant when he became trapped in machinery last Tuesday (6 March).

The fire brigade was called to the scene, but by the time of arrival colleagues had freed him using bolt cutters.

He was treated on site and airlifted to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

In a statement regarding the incident, managing director Stephen Denbigh said: "On Tuesday 6 March, there was an accident in the company’s printing department, involving a press log stacker that resulted in an employee receiving serious injury.

"The Health and Safety Executive is currently investigating the incident with the full co-operation of the company’s management; full operations have also resumed at the site."
