The deal, which was agreed at the beginning of June, will see DataBind distribute Vivid’s Matrix laminator range, including the Matrix Duo, for double-sided laminating, as well as the Linea Encapsulation Systems.
Vivid, based in Coalville, Leicestershire, already distributes its products through a number of different channels in the US.
Six independent dealers promote its Matrix range while Rock Hill Distribution in South Carolina is a master dealer of its Easymount wide-format range, promoting it throughout the whole of the US. DataBind has become the firm’s second US master dealer.
“Bringing DataBind on board as an authorised reseller of our products means a great deal to Vivid," said Vivid export manager Bruce Cozens.
"We have been evaluating the US market over the past four years to see which is the best way forward for us.
“It's either going to independent dealers in each state or master dealers that cover the whole of the US with their own dealer network and technical team to cover installations and service. We have found the best way forward is with the master dealers.
“We were originally approached by DataBind as they wanted to expand on their finishing equipment, adding to the range of Renz systems they currently sell in the US on an exclusive basis, and were recommended to contact Vivid by Renz UK managing director Iain Bullock.”
DataBind vice-president of North American sales Jon Gasperini added: “Vivid’s reputation for robust design and speed was confirmed after visiting their factory and meeting their experienced team of professionals.
“There was no doubt in our minds the addition of their products to our offerings would create a new valued partner.”
Both firms will be exhibiting at this year’s Graph Expo trade show in Chicago, which runs from 13 to 16 September, something Cozens said Vivid was looking forward to.
Vivid will also show the Easymount Air pneumatic wide-format laminator at the show, which it premiered as a prototype system at Fespa in Cologne, Germany in May. Cozens said there has been "a lot of interest" in the machine, which will officially launch in the autumn.
