US print news roundup

The US print industry has been buoyed by the latest series of reports for the manufacturing sector, with production, new orders and employment all on the rise. The USPO is doing its bit, vying to maintain first class mail volumes by creating tailored contracts for major customers. And HP announced a major customr of its own as self-publishing leader Lulu threw its lot in with the manufacturer to have its books printed on HP Indigo and web presses.
Elsewhere, Heidelberg and Ricoh officially launched its partnership at digi:media in Germany with a US rollout later in 2012, while US private equity firm is in talks over a possible acquisition of UK web printer Polestar. And, closer to home multibillion dollar print giant Transcontinental closed a Quebec-based newspaper plant as it consolidated production into its state-of-the-art facilities.
