Trade bodies compile survey

Three industry organisations have launched an industry-wide survey in an attempt to lay down guidelines for improved industrial relations.

Members of the BPIF, SPEF and GPMU will this week receive a survey that will canvass their opinions on issues including work-life balance, safety, training and improving productivity.

The survey forms part of the Partnership at Work Initiative, which aims to produce what the BPIF calls a "national bargaining framework" for unions and employers by the beginning of next year. The project has been funded by a 250,000 grant from the Department of Trade and Industry.

BPIF strategic partnerships director Andrew Brown said: "I would like the result to be a document that both sides of the industry agree to be up to date, focused on the right issues and relevant."

The survey follows two consultations in the past three months on a strategic plan for the industry and the training levy. Brown said: "This is specifically targeted at relationships between employers and unions, as well as attitudes towards change among both employers and employees.
