Timson has unveiled the latest version of its T-Flex flexo press which is aimed at the packaging, direct mail and label markets.
The T-Flex has a maximum web width of 508mm and variable print cylinder repeats between 203mm and 457mm. The press, which has a top speed of 260 metres per minute, can handle substrates ranging from 20 micron film to 200gsm board. At Drupa the company has demonstrated cylinder changeover and full image registration in under five minutes.
Timson worked in conjunction with Akzo and GEW to produce the latest UV version of the T-Flex which can have a maximum of eight print stations. However, marketing director John Miles said that even a four-colour T-Flex is not limited to four-colour work. Weve developed the ability to put pre-printed work back through in precise register, he said.
A video camera over the web detects a pre-printed register mark. Its position is fed back to software which calculates the margin of correction needed on each unit to correct register errors.
Miles said that Timson had worked closely with a number of specialist companies in an attempt to build its flexo business. Were no longer machine-builders, weve had to acquire a real understanding of the substrates and inks used in flexo.
Timson is currently developing a version of the T-Flex for carton work.
