The Bournemouth-based printer will use the new purchase to replace an existing Xeikon DCP50D, giving the company the capacity to produce up to 4.2m pages a month.
With the new press, the three-staff company said it can now handle heavier stocks up to 350gsm – a move it anticipates will open up new markets for digital short-run jobs such as CD cases and folders.
The Digital Press has specified the press with Xeikon's new Web Finishing Module, which seals the print before cutting, helping to prevent marking on the stock.
Managing director Peter Randall said: "The new Xeikon gives us a faster throughput while allowing us to print a variety of applications onto heavier stocks."
He added: "The format of the Xeikon allows us to provide printing solutions that other print businesses cannot handle – six-page gatefold brochures, posters up to B2 in size, and long banner work."
The Xeikon 5000 can print up to 130 A4 pages a minute on substrates up to 500mm wide.
Chris Matthews, managing director of Xeikon supplier Punch Graphix UK, said: "We believe that the significant advances in digital printing technology offered by this machine with help the company to grow as it seeks to establish itself as the digital printing supplier of choice for the Dorset area and beyond."
The Digital Press expands available substrates with Xeikon 5000 buy
The Digital Press is hoping to attract heavy stock short-run work after investing in a Xeikon 5000 digital colour press, complete with Xeikon's Web Finishing Module.
