The Guernsey-based company has replaced an existing Xeikon DCP50 with the new machine, which it anticipates will increase its offering across the board.
The 5000, which will join a Xeikon 500 and a Xeikon 50, allows the nine-staff business to print on heavier stocks up to 350gsm and offer a fifth colour for corporate customers producing spot colour jobs.
André Digard, managing director at Island Scan, said the new investment would help update its front-end technology and, in turn, make the company more competitive in the direct mail market.
"The increased speed of the press, coupled with a front end that allows us to handle a greater number of files, means we can go after more work in the direct marketing field."
Island Scan will now have the ability to produce up to 4.2m pages a month. "The 5000 is significantly faster than our existing machines, which means that we can be more competitive on pricing," Digard added.
The company was established 20 years ago and handles work for blue chips and local customers, as well as those in the local tourist industry.
