Packaging set as target after CRi Xeikon buy

Nottingham-based digital house CRi is to target the packaging sector after installing the first Xeikon 5000 press in the Midlands.

The press will replace CRi's previous Xeikon 32 and 50 machines, and has been installed with Xeikon's X-800 front-end.

CRi chairman Chris Onions said that the press would bring "opportunities to enter new markets".

"Its ability to handle stocks of up to 350gsm means that we will be able to produce short-run packaging products. This should open the door to the production of promotional items and test marketing packs."

Onions added that the firm had "already proved to ourselves" that the new machine would compete with litho on runs of up to 5,000, compared to 500 with the Xeikon 32.
