The Shropshire-based business said the acquisition would enable it to offer foiling, a service it previously outsourced, as an additional in-house service.
“Telford Foil Print was a well established company that specialised in all manner of different types of foiling,” said Telford Reprographics managing director Peter Llewellyn, who wanted to keep the amount paid for the business confidential.
“Ray Tranter, who ran the company, wanted to retire and he approached us several months ago to ask us if we would be interested in buying the company. We agreed to it and the deal went through on 1 September."
Telford Foil Print’s operations, including its three Marshall foiling devices, have been moved into Telford Reprographics’ premises and the firm's two other staff have also been taken on, taking Telford Reprographics’ total staff number to 14.
The business will now be able to offer its customers more choice of finish on business cards, presentation folders, menus, certificates, letterheads, compliment slips, napkins, beer mats, key fobs, lighters and a range of other products.
“The foiling service complements our digital print business and will keep services in-house where we can control the quality of the product and meet client deadlines efficiently,” said Llewellyn.
“It fits beautifully into our portfolio because we do quite a lot of things like wedding stationery, and foiling adds another string to our bow."
He added: “Telford Foil Print have brought their own customer base with them and we’re also now introducing the service to our existing customer base and have converted several of those to various forms of foiling as well.
“There aren’t many people that do foiling anymore so we’ve picked up quite a lot of trade work. I think it’s going to prove to be a very worthwhile acquisition.”
Llewellyn said the acquisition will add around £250,000 to Telford Reprographics’ turnover, taking it to around £1m.
Telford Reprographics was established as a copy shop and plan printing specialist in 1994. The business, which also has an in-house design studio, serves a wide range of customers across the UK and internationally.
Earlier this year the firm spent around £250,000 on three new Konica Minolta bizhub press C1060s, a 3,000bph Duplo DBM-150 bookletmaker and a Duplo DSF-2200 sheet feeder. It also expanded its purpose-built facility from 325sqm to 465sqm to accommodate the new machinery and create staffroom facilities.
The company also operates Epson wide-format devices, which it uses to produce POS, exhibition material, banners and displays.
