Standout students honoured at print ceremonies

Students in the print industry have won awards and scholarships in two ceremonies held last Thursday.

Four young printers were awarded 2,500 each in the inaugural BPIF Educational Scholarships, organised by the Printers' Charitable Corporation and funded from the BPIF Benevolent Fund.

The four winners, who are students and apprentice printers, were Ulrike Fischer, 26, Darren Amar, 18, Jenny Keeble, 22 and Owen Pawsey, 20. BPIF president Ken Iddon said that the money had been awarded to students "who find it difficult to produce the funds from their own resources".

"We picked a cross section and there were some very good candidates," he said.

BPIF chief executive Michael Johnson said: "This is the sort of thing we want to do to inspire young people and it was hugely successful."

Meanwhile, students from the LCC's BA course in Print Media Management were honoured at the Daily Mail's Northcliffe House in Kensington, London.

Munir Pirmohamed from Dubai won the Daily Mail Blue Riband Award for Excellence in Print and Publishing.
