The web-to-print specialist installed the UK’s first HP Indigo 120K B2 digital press as part of the £3.4m spend, which also included a second B1 Heidelberg Speedmaster and a variety of post-press equipment including Horizon and MBO folders.
The Southend-on-Sea business has also boosted its embellishment offering with a new Konica Minolta AccurioShine 3600 with iFoil One.
It has replaced the firm’s older KM MGI JetVarnish.
The new embellisher uses Konica Minolta inkjet tech and has a top speed of 2,077sph in A3 format. It can produce variable spot UV varnish thicknesses, as well as 3D embossed foiling.
Solopress managing director Simon Cooper said the firm’s combination of litho and digital capacity allowed it to flex production for short- and long-run work.
“By pursuing both approaches, we ensure that whatever jobs come in on any given day, we can address the needs of a diverse range of customers in a timely fashion.”
The firm has installed the new equipment while also managing the spike in demand caused by July’s snap General Election, with Cooper paying testament to the Solopress team for managing record-breaking demand while maintaining service levels.
“We’re now getting ourselves set up for the next peak which will happen in Q4, where we expect to be firing on all cylinders,” he added.
Solopress had sales of £35.5m last year and employs around 230. The firm is tracking for sales of £40m this year and Cooper has £60m in his sights for 2026.
