Sodra has raised the price of its bleached hardwood kraft pulp (eucalyptus and birch) for the second consecutive month.
The EURO20 per tonne rise, taking the price to EURO780 per tonne, was effective from 1 October. It followed Ence's announcement of a rise to EURO795 per tonne.
A Sodra spokesman said: "We have basically made a compromise decision with regard to the increase, falling between Ence's rise and Portucel's price.
"This is going to mean another 12-14 for the paper producers, and we realise it's tough. With regard to softwood, the price should remain firm until further notice, with no rise in October and it's likely there will not be a rise in November."
If the scenario of the devaluing euro continues, it is possible that several major players may start to invoice in dollars to retain value.
