The project, known as 100% Shotton, will increase the UKs recycling capacity by 30% and follows successful print trials for the companys 100% recycled newsprint sheets last month (PrintWeek, 23 October).
Shottons recycling capacity will increase to more than 700,000 tonnes of recovered paper a year through the investment.
Shottons recycled fibre pulp facility at its North Wales plant forms part of the 124m newsprint-recycling project, for which UPM-Kymmene received aid from the Waste Resources Action Programme.
