The Nottingham-based company said its patented PurePack system features a water-based coating that can be applied inline and offers a direct food contact and grease and water resistant barrier.
With printing and coating taking place inline, it is potentially cheaper and quicker than using a separate lamination process, and the product is fully biodegradeable, compostable and recyclable.
It can be used with a wide range of boards and stock weights, including packaging with PLA biodegradeable windows, so the two elements do not need to be separated for recycling.
PurePack is already being used on sandwich packs for Dobbies Garden Centres and complies with food industry standards such as FDA/BGA regulations, COBB values, KIT and MVTR.
Managing director Jeremy Bacon described PurePack as "a key product for future expansion in our packaging division".
He added it would "change the face of convenience food packaging. It allows us to adopt a high degree of flexibility in designing packaging solutions".
