Scorpio fits data handling system

Technique Business Systems is in the final stage of installing what is believed to be the UKs largest single site deployment of shop-floor data collection for Scorpio Print Finishing.

In a deal worth 200,000, according to Scorpio chief executive officer Ian Whitfield, the firm has purchased data terminals to monitor 27 different processes.

Technique began installing the system three weeks ago and is due to complete the job next month.
The data collection system involves touch screens on each piece of finishing equipment. It automatically monitors uptime, downtime, waste, machine, operator and job performance. It also offers copy count accuracy to eliminate under-runs and over-runs.

The set up was installed to increase efficiency and productivity and reduce costs and waste to improve profitability.

Technique claims that it has unique facilities, such as the ability to count individual sets on multi-copy sheets and the facility to monitor exactly how many sheets are being used.

Whitfield said that Scorpio had chosen Technique because it was an excellent product, competitively priced and it fitted exactly with our needs. Scorpio already uses Techniques electronic production planning tool and is in the process of upgrading its management information system.

Whitfield commented: This unlocks the potential to increase efficiency, production and profitability. We dont print, we finish and accountability is essential.
