Scheme to print tailored content on airline boarding passes takes off

Six airlines have signed up to a new initiative that will allow tailored content to be printed on customers' boarding passes.

The scheme has been implemented by travel content provider Sojern with carriers such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways already participating.

Information such as local weather, area facts, as well as restaurant and theatre recommendations, will be printed on passes obtained through the online check-in process.

Advertisers that have already signed up to the customised print programme include Crocs, NBC Universal, Cirque du Soleil and Borders.

Gordon Whitten, founder of Sojern, said: "Since the airlines connect to millions of high-income travellers about to embark on a trip, advertisers are also clamouring to get involved. It is truly a win for passengers, a win for advertisers, and a win for airlines."
