In February this year Rothlaender came out of retirement to oversee Manroland Sheetfed's transition following its acquisition by Langley Holdings.
Rothlaender joined Langley in 2001 as he headed up the €135m-turnover (£113m) manufacturing firm Claudius Peters when it was acquired by the group.
He then went on to lead power specialist the Piller Group, another Langely acquisition, between 2005 and 2008 before retiring in 2010.
On stepping down from his role at the Offenbach-based sheetfed operation Rothlaender said: "My task here is complete. Mr Langley asked me to step in to Manroland for one year following the acquisition which I agreed to do.
"During this period no stone has been left unturned and I am satisfied that the company is now in good shape."
Langley added: "The post-acquisition heavy lifting is over now and with much thanks to Alfred, it has gone remarkably smoothly.
"I am personally very grateful that he agreed to come out of retirement to help with the transition and very happy that he will continue as a consultant to the Manroland business in 2013."
