S Thiruvengadam, the CEO at Ram and Lakshman Graphics, said that since 2005, eight years after he began his printing business, he decided to foray into the digital market.
"We began as a pre-press bureau in 1997, and we started CTP for commercial use in 2000. We may have been one of the first few printers do that." The firm brought in a Xerox machine at the time, and over a month ago purchased a Ricoh Pro C901, as they thought it was the "right product given the market situation".
In fact, within a month of being installed and running, the machine has worked well for them.
"We’ve had no engineer visits this month for the machine, and have practically no issues with it. The print quality is excellent and because of its automated cleaning functions, it is low-maintenance," added Thiruvengadam.
From 70-80 print jobs a day, they now run up to 150 jobs, thanks to the Ricoh machine.
Now putting his education at the London School of Printing, and his experience at The Hindu and Heidelberg in Germany to use, Thiruvengadam stated the photo imaging market has expanded a lot, and it is time to tread uncharted territory.
With the number of walk-ins demanding a customised photo album from their phones, Ram and Lakshman Graphics has found an exciting new market.
"We have much to do before we can make this our USP. To begin with, we’re looking out for the right software to help us develop these customised mobile photo albums," he added.
Ricoh at Ram and Lakshman to help with cell phone albums
Bengaluru-based printers Ram and Lakshman Graphics installed a Ricoh Pro C901, the first-of-its-kind installation in the country. With the Ricoh the firm expects to increase their output by nearly 50%, and hope to tap an entirely new market with the machine: mobile phone photography.
