Printcafe was pleased with its third-quarter results after losses fell and sales rose.Sales were up 5% on last year a good result in a tough time, said chief financial officer Joseph Wang.

It produced a pro-forma loss of £636,000 ($987,000), down 70%, on sales of £7.3m. It was the fourth consecutive quarter that the firm’s EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) was positive, at a modest £11,600.

Its third quarter is usually slow compared to others due to the effects of the summer holiday. Printcafe is confident of improved results in the fourth quarter but is not predicting when it expects to move into profitability.

The majority of its business is in the commercial sector with a large amount being additional modules such as its scheduling tool, PrintFlow. The firm was encouraged by the interest shown at Graph Expo in PrintFlow, PrinterSite Internal (its remote estimating tool for sales staff) and Press Connector (a new JDF-based product that integrates its MIS with presses).

Shares rose 15% on the results and were trading at £1.03 ($1.60) as PrintWeek went to press.
