The machine, which is due to be installed at the Kings Langley, Hertfordshire-based company’s premises later this month, was bought from AG/CAD for just under £100,000.

The business specified the SuperHead model with three tooling stations that can accommodate kiss-cut tools, routing, knife, creasing and pen tools.

The 1630C table, which has a bed size of 1.7x3.4m, will enable the company to work on a wide range of substrates including E-flute board, Foamex and Corex. The machine works with the Kasemake CAD suite with templates for boxes, folders and display units.

Projects & Print had previously hand-trimmed Foamex and posters or outsourced this type of finishing work.

Managing director Richard Barrett said: “We needed to invest to keep up and this machine will put us in a place where we’re completely non-reliant on anybody else.

“We’ve only got one flatbed at the moment but we’d expect the DYSS machine to easily handle the work of two flatbeds so we’ve bought it with the view that it can support us moving forward as well.”

The company also operates an Agfa Anapurna M2500i high-speed UV-curable inkjet system, a Mimaki JV33, two Canon iPF8400s, an Acryl AF 110-45 diamond polisher and a Texkel EXR 3x2m CNC router. It is looking to invest in a new roll-to-roll machine in the coming months.

The business considered alternatives from Agfa and Zünd when looking for a new cutting table but found the DYSS device to be most suited to its requirements.

“Out of all of the machines that we looked at, we thought the DYSS was the best one for roll-to-roll. Our CNC machine can’t do posters, vinyls or any card-based materials,” said Barrett.

The firm has extended its mezzanine to accommodate the DYSS machine, taking its total space up to 465sqm.

Projects & Print was established five years ago and currently has 13 staff, which it is looking to increase to 16 over the next few months. The company is a trade supplier to agencies and provides installation services for internal and external signage.
