The DYSS X7-1630C cutter was installed shortly after the Hertfordshire-based firm bought a 2.5m-wide Agfa Anapurna printer to help expand production.
Projects & Print managing director Chris Parker said: "Since purchasing the cutter, productivity has increased, I'd say, by easily about 25%. You cannot print quick enough for the cutter."
Parker said it has allowed the Hertfordshire-based business to do extra shifts, since being installed in February.
He added: "It has saved us a lot of time because we were handcutting before, which would take two men all day, whereas now it takes half an hour. We are able to do extra shifts just due to the fact that we are extremely busy."
The cutter is 3x1.6m and reduces labour input as it only requires one operator. It can cut 50m rolls in 20 minutes. Staff operating the previous cutter have been deployed to other areas. Parker said he looked around the market but the DYSS met his needs for Project & Print's full-roll demands.
It has clamps that traverse along the bed on the machine’s gantry. The clamps automatically grip the material and the machine conveyor then pulls the roll forward. The machine’s K-Cut Vision system automatically locates registration marks for better precision.
The machine has now been rolled out across all three of Projects & Print’s business divisions, print, point-of-sale and hotel signage. It started its new Projects & Sign business at the beginning of this year.
It produces wide-format graphics, banners and signs for a number of high-profile clients, including Network Rail, BP and Costa Coffee. The new cutter has been particularly useful in creating acrylic signage for hotel chains. Before its purchase, it was struggling to cut Foamex boards with precision.
Last year, it boosted turnover by 25%, purchasing £100,000 worth of new kit, including an Acryl AF 110-45 Diamond polisher. It employs 13 staff at its premises in Kings Langley.
