Printers embrace environmental accreditation

More than 40% of the UK's top 200 printers are ISO 14001 certified, according to GI Direct research - a rise of 17% on 2007 figures.

However, the study also found that fewer than 5% of firms have been independently audited as carbon neutral, which is the same as 2007’s figure.

The research also suggests that two-thirds of the industry is directly involved in recycling and 75% of fibrous raw material used is waste and recovered paper. It also showed that, since 2004, the amount of direct mail sent has been cut by almost 300m items.
