Printagraph puts 1.5m into five Xerox systems

Printagraph is setting its sights on picking up more on-demand work after replacing its Canon digital set-up with 1.5m worth of equipment from Xerox.

The Aberdeen-based B3 print firm has bought five new production systems – an iGen3, a 1050 continuous feed line, a DocuColor 240, a 4110 and a 8365 Colour Mild Solvent wide-format printer, the first of its type to be installed in Scotland.

According to Printagraph managing director Ian Park, the company is now able to push further into the on-demand print market.

“This significant investment in new technology opens a new chapter in the history of our company,” said Park. “While we started off servicing clients in the oil and gas industry, today we are much more.”

Park added that the company would now handle jobs in education, part-works and technical manuals. The new digital presses will run alongside the firm’s existing Ryobi and Sakurai litho presses.

On the pre-press side, the firm has invested in FreeFlow DocuSP RIPs, CMI colour control and XMPie software for variable data.

Finishing equipment from Hunkeler and Tecnau for perforating, cutting, stacking and waste extraction from Friedheim International, was also part of the order.

To house its expanded digital division, Printagraph has also taken on an extra 2,000sqm building.

Xerox UK director of graphic arts Peter Taylor said: “The installation of new systems from Xerox will bring the best-fit technology for Printagraph’s needs – shortening job turnaround times, freeing up staff time and bringing new business to the company.”

Park also paid tribute to staff at the firm, which has a workforce of 28. “They are priceless,” he said. “You can have the best equipment in the market, but the company wouldn’t be anything without the staff here.”
