Prinovis scores as NI hands out first magazine print contract

News International (NI) has chosen German giant Prinovis to produce the first of its hotly anticipated new magazine titles.

It is the first win of what is widely tipped to be five major launches this year from NI's newly established magazine division, News Magazines.

Insiders have said that up to eight magazines could be launched within the next two years, providing a bevy of potentially juicy print contracts for UK firms.

NI is said to be currently considering a number of UK web offset firms for its future titles, although none have yet been confirmed.

Backed by an 8.5m marketing campaign, Love It! will debut on 7 February with an initial print run of 1.3m copies and target circulation of 400,000.

3m 32pp sample copies of the magazine will also be given away free with the Saturday edition of The Sun and News of the World at the end of this month.

Prinovis will produce the 64pp "real-life" title on its gravure presses at Nuremburg on 130gsm paper, but the firm was unable to confirm whether or not it would be moving the title to Liverpool when the gravure superplant becomes operational.

A second major magazine launch, homes title Inside Out, is expected from News Magazines on 16 March, although rumours of an imminent men's weekly magazine from the division have been quashed.

The launch of Love It! comes following Polestar Sheffield's win of the contract to produce NatMags' 1m-run real-life title, Real People.

Other real-life magazines in the sector include H Bauer's Take a Break and IPC's Chat, which have weekly sales of 1.2m and 609,163 respectively.
