Chatham wide-format firm PressOn helped Welsh football team Wrexham rejuvenate its STōK Cae Ras (Racecourse) stadium with graphics printed on the firm’s fleet of HP Latex machines.

Designing, printing and wrapping a variety of spaces within the stadium, including the corridors leading to the players’ changing rooms, PressOn worked with Wrexham sponsor HP to help give the stadium a new look befitting the club’s newfound fame under under celebrity ownership.

Printing with HP Latex 3600 and R2000 machines, PressOn’s team revamped the club’s home ground with bright colours, giving the bar and player’s tunnel a dramatic, dragon-inspired design reflecting Wrexham’s heritage as the oldest club in Wales.

“We were thrilled to be asked to do the job, and to be part of the Wrexham AFC adventure,” Andy Wilson, managing director of PressOn told Printweek.

Printed on Metamark’s recyclable Metastream substrates, which get collected at end-of-life, the graphics were cut on PressOn’s Kongsberg digital cutting table.

Wrexham AFC has risen in prominence in recent years, after actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the club in 2020, with docuseries Welcome to Wrexham bringing the fifth-tier a huge international following. Since 2020 it has been promoted twice, and now competes in EFL League One.

Along with the international renown has come international sponsorship, including from HP, which connected the club with PressOn.

“HP are one of their headline sponsors, and we’re a go-to supplier for HP because we use entirely HP Latex kit, we have strong sustainability initiatives, and we’re dedicated to recycling and end-of-life responsible disposal,” Wilson explained.

“Those values fit alongside HP’s own, and we’re always looking for those sustainable solutions.”

Wrexham AFC executive director Humphrey Ker said: “We’re thrilled with the design that has been printed across the corridors and player tunnel within the STōK Cae Ras. Not only is the finished piece visibly bold and impressive, but with its eco credentials this work underlines Wrexham AFC’s commitment to enhance the stadium in a more sustainable manner.

“The latest designs embody our well-stated ambitions, within the club’s mission statement, of matching progress off the pitch with the progression we have made on it.

“As we look to continue climbing the footballing pyramid, projects like this with HP and PressOn help us to elevate the stadium in parallel and transform these spaces through innovative design with HP Latex technology.”
