PPA to launch online pre-flight service

The PPA will launch an online service for pre-flighting files to pass4press guidelines in September.

Now theres no excuse for not pre-flighting, said Debbie Read, IPC production director and chair of the PPA pass4press committee.

The system has been developed by Vio and Markzware, but doesnt require advertisers or publishers to have either product. It uses JDF for job ticket creation and the exchange of information.

It is free at the moment with Vio and Markzware providing the infrastructure. It is an excellent marketing tool, said Vio managing director of sales and marketing Miranda Clegg Its a worthwhile investment.

In the second year of operation publishers will pay a fee per pre-flight.

When it goes live on a trial basis in September, IPC and several other publishers of glossy consumer magazines will test the site.

Their feedback will be used to update the site and will also be reported at the PPA Production Conference on 30 October. Pass4press 4 and proof4press will also be launched.
