The firm is consulting on a number of redundancies at the Oxfordshire site, with 16 jobs at risk.
The huge Bicester ‘supersite’ currently runs seven webs: four Manroland Lithoman 64/72pp presses, a 16pp Komori System 38 and 16pp Manroland Polyman 45, and the 48pp Heidelberg Sunday 4000.
“We have made a proposal to close the M4000 at Bicester and a potential 16 positions are at risk of redundancy,” said group HR director Simon Jones. “We have entered into a period of consultation and until this has been completed I can’t comment further.”
Around 380 employees are currently employed at Bicester. The business has a work mix that encompasses periodicals, catalogues and commercial web print. A number of time-sensitive weeklies are produced at the site.
Industry-watchers have been expecting changes at Polestar following its cash crisis and subsequent change of ownership at the end of last year.
An influx of board members from new owner Proventus Capital Partners followed, and the group also has a new chief financial officer.
